An Interdisciplinary Study of Foreign Languages and Translation: Transformation and Relocation
Call for Papers
After the merger of three universities, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) was established on February 2018, and College of Foreign Languages started to move into a new milestone. To engage our college teachers in academic dialogues with scholars, researchers, educators and practitioners from other universities and industries, we organize this conference on “Interdisciplinary Study of Foreign Languages and Translation: Transformation and Relocation.” We hope that this conference can open up an avenue to brainstorm brilliant ideas and generate excellent academic research output.
 
CONFERENCE THEMES
In the era of globalization and multiculturalism, the division point between local and global communities is phasing out. The sectors of various industries are undertaking a transformation in operation and features.
In light of this shifting landscape of industries, educational and academic communities are encouraged to reflect on the methods of reform, innovation, and re-explore how to relocate the positioning of teaching, research of foreign languages and translation. We thus provide a platform and invite all participants to re-examine the issues of research, teaching and application of foreign languages and translation, from the interdisciplinary perspectives of connections with industries, relevance to cultures, and collaboration with technologies.
Participants are invited to submit papers that fall into the area of “foreign languages and translation”.
The topics of interest include but are not limited to the following:
1. Interdisciplinary integration of theory and practice in the teaching of foreign languages.
2. Interdisciplinary integration of theory and practice in the teaching of translation.
3. Interdisciplinary dialogues between culture and application of foreign languages.
4. Interdisciplinary dialogues between culture and application of translation.
5. Interdisciplinary connections between industry and teaching of foreign languages.
6. Interdisciplinary connections between industry and translation teaching.
7. Interdisciplinary collaboration between technology and foreign language teaching.
8. Interdisciplinary collaboration between technology and translation teaching.
9. Interdisciplinary relationship between the publishing industry and foreign language studies.
10. Interdisciplinary relationship between the publishing industry and translation studies.
11. Other research in relation to interdisciplinary study.
 
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
1. The abstract should clearly state four main points, including Research Purpose, Research Methods, Findings and Discussion and Conclusion.
2. Please further state topic, authors’ names & affiliations, institution and keywords in the abstract.
3. The abstract in English or Japanese or Chinese must be less than 1000 words. Please use DFKai-SB in an abstract in Chinese and use Times New Roman in an abstract in English. Line spacing needs to be at 20 pt.
All abstracts need to be submitted to 0634805@nkust.edu.tw and 0634813@nkust.edu.tw with an email subject “FLT2020 Submission_(Author’s name)_(Title of the paper)”. The abstract can be written in English or Japanese or Chinese. The abstract will go through a blind peer-review process. Submitted papers must not substantially overlap with papers that have been published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or a conference with proceedings. Submission of an abstract should be regarded as a commitment that, should the paper be accepted, at least one of the authors will register and attend the conference to present the paper.

Submission of abstract by December 10, 2019
Acceptance of abstracts by January 11, 2020
Submission of long abstracts by September 1, 2020
Release of Agenda and Notification by November 10, 2020
